A Christmas Cabaret and Dance will be held in the El Andaluz Restaurant, Moraira on Saturday, 20th December, commencing at 10.30 hours. This restaurant is situated about 150 metres past El Paichi Garden Centre on the left hand side, taking the Benitachell road at the roundabout.
The “Voice of David” will be the vocalist. David has been singing with various bands for many years, including the Lyceum Ballroom, London and also nightly at the Talk of the Coast, Benidorm.

Also performing will be Barry Moon, comedian who has entertained troops in the Falklands, Northern Ireland and Kuwait.

During the month of December there will be special dinners at Benidorm Palace.
The menu consists of pates with toast, cream of fresh vegetable soup, a crown of fresh and smoked salmon with lemon sauce, fillet steak, chef´s special desert and Christmas confectionary. Also included are white, rosé and red wines and champagne.

The price including show is €53.

On Christmas Day there will be a special dinner. This consists of salmon with cheese and herbs, cream soup with almonds, special salad, sorbet of mango and pineapple, fillet steak with golden potatoes and vegetables, Christmas pudding, a bottle of wine between two of either white, rosé or red, champagne and Christmas confectionary.

The price including show is €53.

On Boxing Day there will be a special dinner.

This consists of Salad with three cheeses, cream of leek soup with ham, salmon delights with watercress and mango vinaigrette, apple sorbet, fillet steak in port sauce with roast potatoes, Christmas log with custard, Christmas delights, a bottle of wine for two, white, rosé or red.

The price including show is €53.

There is a grand dinner and gala for New Year´s Eve.

The menu consists of a special pate with salad and rosemary honey, clam soup, lobster salad, lemon with rum, special deserts, Choice of wines, Raimat Chardonet, Mateus Rosé, Tinto Crianza (Rubero del Duero) and champagne. There is a stall in Calpe Market (on Saturday mornings) which sell a great profusion of mushrooms in late autumn.
Amongst the mushrooms you may find the following, portobello, chanterelle, button, chestnut, mousseron, oyster, trompette, field and shitake, and others.

If you enter the market from the end at the top of the hill (past Eroski supermarket) the stall is situated on the right hand side about six or seven stalls from the beginning.

A very pleasant day can be spent visiting the town of Albir. There is a splendid beach, plenty of shops and restaurants.
For fish and chips Sharky´s is a very good choice. It is situated in Avenida Albir, in the town centre and offers a menu of the day, consisting of cod or haddock with chips, mushy peas or curry sauce, bread and butter, tea, coffee, half lager or half bottle of wine per person. This is only €8.50 or for O:A:P:s it is only €7.50. The fish is good and the chips are freshly cooked and excellent. Other choices are chicken, steak or chicken and mushroom pies with chips, jumbo sausage, chips, and beans, quarter pound burger with chips and salad or cheeseburger, chips and salad, all ranging from €6.50 to €5.00. Desserts are apple pie and custard, ice cream, cheesecake or Mississippi mud pie.

The restaurant is open from 12.0 mid day to 10.0 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, closed on Sundays. You can eat inside or outside if the weather is good.

For a special evening out with excellent dining Satari´s Restaurant can be thoroughly recommended.
To arrive at the restaurant, take the coast road from Moraira towards Calpe and opposite Mas y Mas Supermarket turn right and the restaurant is about 150 metres up on the left hand side.

There is a set menu of €19, consisting of three courses. Drinks are extra. The starters include a delicious fried goat´s cheese served with a salad and exquisite dressing, soup, mushrooms, and many others. Main courses consist of fish, lamb, steak and many others. There is a good choice of deserts. The décor and setting of the restaurant is excellent and the house wine at €13 was superb.

There are special evenings on 14th November, 5th, 13th, and 19th December when the restaurant will be holding a dinner dance with music from the 60´s, 70´s and 80´s. The restaurant is also offering a Special Christmas Menu from 1st December.

The restaurant is open every night from 6.30 p.m. until late but is closed on Wednesday.

The standard menus at Monroes consist of: Lunch specials , Monday – Saturday: Carvery & Dessert at €5.95, Sunday lunch: Choice of starter,, carvery with beef, pork / turkey, choice of dessert, available all day from 12.0 p.m. Monday night is pie night at €5.95, consisting of homemade pies and suet puddings, and a choice of dessert. Early evening special at €7.75, carvery & dessert between 6.0 p.m. and 7.0 p.m. Also at the Benidorm carvery there is Benidorm happy hour Monday to Friday, carvery for €4.95 between 7.0 and 8.0 p.m. At the Moraira Monroes there is a special fish night, with North sea cod, a dessert, all for €5.95, for lunch and evening. Also at Moraira there is a half price carvery special from 8.0 p.m. Monday to Saturday between 3rd November and 23rd December.
A similar meal is offered at Pedreguer but lunch time only. Also at Pedreguer Tuesday night is jazz night, Wednesday night there is Country Western and Rock ´n´ Roll (alternate Wednesdays and on Friday night John Curtis will perform.

On Saturday nights there is jazz swing Combo with Vera Engel and on Wednesday there is John Curtis.

Monroes are also offering a special lunch on Christmas day, consisting of a three course carvery, wine and coffee for €49.50. On Boxing day a similar lunch is offered for €19.50. On New Year´s Eve they are offering a three course carvery, wine and cava at midnight. At the Moraira Monroes there will be live music with Barry Peters, all for €33.

A Fun Flamenco Show

A special flamenco show will be performed on Friday, 28th November at 8.0 p.m. at the restaurant Viva España. This restaurant is situated just off the N 332 driving towards Oliva, on the left hand side.

This special evening will hold a tombola, and serve a three course traditional Spanish meal. It is being held to raise funds for SPAMA, in aid of abandoned animals. The organisation feeds more than 600 animals who have been neglected, ill treated or abandoned.

Before the advent of the new technology in the Calpe Fish Market, the sale of fish from the boats was held daily in the fish hall. It consisted of boxes of fish being auctioned by the person in charge calling out the price. It started at a high price and then descended very rapidly until someone put their hand up to buy and the priced was settled.

This procedure is now highly technical and most interesting to watch. Firstly the hall has tiered benches either side where prospective purchases sit to await the arrival of the fish. In the middle of the hall is a conveyor belt which holds the boxes of fish and above the belt is a cable running from one end to the other. Attached to the belt is a large red arrow and as the boxes of fish move along each one stops below the red arrow. At the same time there is a large electronic plaque which shows firstly the price in pesetas, then the name of the fishing boat, the type of fish in the box being auctioned, the number of boxes, the price in euros and the weight. On the last line is the name of the purchaser. All this is in the Valencio language.

Again the price starts high and gradually reduces and in order to bid you have to have a gadget which looks like a mobile telephone and when you want to bid you press the top of the gadget. The box of fish then moves along and there is a young man who throws a large amount of ice on top of the fish. The box moves further along and a ticket is issued automatically from a machine and drops into the basket.

At the end of the hall in a glass fronted office a man sits at a computer to record the whole transaction.

All this is carried out very rapidly and makes for an interesting hour or two. The auction starts around 5.0 p.m. You can enter the hall through glass doors to the left of the building, mount the stairs and view from the gallery.

This restaurant is beautifully appointed and serves very good food. Drive to the crossroads in Benitachell from Moraira, turn right and take the road which forks right about 200 metres from the crossroads. It is immediately on the right.
The restaurant serves a three-course meal including a half bottle of wine per person. Starters include lasagne, eggs Rioja, mushrooms, melon with ham, salad, grilled cheese, beef carpacio, entremeses, soup, smoked salmon, seafood cocktail and spinach pasta. Main courses are monkfish, frogs legs, squid, chicken, partridge, duck confit, lamb chops, quails, spare ribs, lambs liver, entrocote steak, lamb Catalana, filet of pork, and duck breast. Prices for the complete menu, including a desert range from €15.00 to €20.00, depending on the main course chosen. The restaurant is open from 7.0 p.m. until 10.0 p.m. Tuesdays to Sundays and also from 1.0 p.m. to 3.0 p.m. on Sundays when suckling pig is available at €21.00.

This restaurant is beautifully appointed and situated with fabulous views out to sea and on a clear day you can see Ibiza.

The restaurant is now serving its Menu del dia which includes tapas and a three course menu plus a half bottle of wine per person. The price is €14.00 including IVA:

Taspas include pate, salad, scallop gratin, pancakes, and brandade of cod. The first course is cream of pumpkin soup followed by a choice of main courses: Pork stew, Cordon bleu, chicken curry, grilled filet of fish, sole with prawns or salmon with asparagus. Deserts are apple tart , chocolate mousse or fruit.
