Calpe Port Fish Restaurant

A delightful evening can be spent in one of the restaurants at the fish port in Calpe.

These restaurants are all along one side of the road opposite the Fish Auction house and specialise mainly in fish dishes, although other dishes are available.

Each restaurant has a fantastic display of fresh fish dishes, giving you an idea of what to choose. There are displays containing all fish, for example, lobster, oysters, sardines, sole, salmon, etc. or you can choose a three course menu del dia with a bottle of wine between two people for only €8.60 plus VAT.

Each restaurant vies for your custom, offering you a glass of sangria and a tit-bit to entice you to choose their restaurant.

It is normally not necessary to book, just go along and have a browse before trying one of them.

The other plus is that you are right by the beach and on a summer evening this is very enjoyable

To find out what is on offer each week the Costa Blanca News features three pages of advertisements. Lidl will supply bags but charge for them so it is worth taking a few bags with you.

Calpe Market

This market is held on Saturday mornings and is one of the most extensive on the Costa Blanca.

If you take the coast road from Moraira, drive to Calpe, past the garage on the right hand side and continue up the hill towards Alicante for about another two hundred yards.

You can park in the Eroski car park on the right hand side and walk up the hill for about 150 metres and you are then at the beginning of the market.

Alternatively, you can park in Mercadona which is just past the garage on the left hand side and you are in the middle of the market.

At the beginning of the market there are an abundance of fruit and vegetable stalls with just about every variety of fruit and vegetable you can think of.

There is one stall which specialises in mushrooms and when in season there are as many as six or seven different species. Also there are two flower stalls and their displays are an absolute delight. Everything is very reasonably priced.

Continuing down the market there are stalls selling handbags, shoes, jewellery, clothes for children and adults, curtain materials, table cloths, beach cushions, tapes and C.D.s, toys, cheeses and hams, eggs, and bric a brac.
