APASA Javea Dinner and Dance

There will be a dinner and dance on Friday, 20th June at the Canor Banqueting Suite, Teulada.

This is organised by APASA (Javea Dog Pound) and everyone is welcome. Tickets are €35 each and will include welcome drinks, canapes, wine beer, water and three course dinner followed by dancing to Double Impact, vocal duo.

There will be an auction and the Directors of Ice Magic International Ltd. At the Plaza Central Shopping Mall in Calpe have donated a prize for a party for up to 12 people at the Calpe rink, to include skating and buffet refreshments with a pair of Italian designer ice skates thrown in. The winners will also be given a skate tuition by top international ice hockey coach.

Wok Restaurant Moraira

This is a fairly new restaurant which has opened on the dual carriageway road, leading from the roundabout by the new Town Hall, on the right hand side..

It is a very reasonably priced restaurant and for just under €10.0 you can help yourself to all the food available. There is a counter of raw foods, salmon, prawns, squid, fish fillets, lamb chops, steaks, chicken and lots of vegetables which you can take to the counter and the chefs will cook it for you in whichever sauce you wish, for example, garlic, Thai curry, black bean, curry and many others.

There is also another counter with ready cooked foods, for example crispy duck, chicken, frogs legs, beef, lamb dishes, rice and noodle dishes and salads.
There are also two or three different types of soup available, plus a very attractive selection of deserts, fresh and tinned fruit, yoghurt and ice creams.

A bottle of house wine is under €7 and there are other wines available at a higher price.

This restaurant is exceptionally good for families with young children as there is no long waiting to be served and the restaurant offers a lower price for children.

Scallops Restaurant in Javea

This restaurant is fantastic value for money. It is situated at the extreme southern end of Javea Arenal beach right by the water’s edge and there are plenty of tables in the open air, plus three large rooms inside.

It can be a little noisy inside but the menus are good and cheap. Three course meals, including a bottle of wine each person (you can take wine away if you do not drink it) start at around € 7 or € 8 per head and there are many choices, including fried fish, lamb, curry, pies, etc. also starters include avocado, soup, salads, pates and many more. Desserts are very varied also.

Tables can reserved indoors if preferred.

Restaurant L'Antiga Escola, Tollos

For a delightful day out to the mountains, nothing could be better than a visit to the restaurant L’Antiga Escola in Tollos. This restaurant is on top of a hill just past Castell de Castells. To reach Castell de Castells drive through Benissa going north and take the right fork signposted Jalon, continue through Jalon on to Alcalali and you will see Castell de Castells signposted just past the village.

There is lamb with mountain herbs on the menu, also Thai curry , starters include grilled mushrooms with Serrano ham. All the desserts are home made. The restaurant is owned by the chef, hence excellent personal attention.

Monroes Carvery in Moraira

This is an English restaurant which is very good value for money. If you are driving from the garage in Moraira towards Benitachell you will see the signpost on the left hand side to turn right and it is situated about 100 metres up on the left. This is only about three hundred metres from the garage.

Their lunch time special is only €5.95 for a carvery and dessert from Monday to Saturday. Sunday lunch which includes a starter, carvery of beef, pork and turkey and choice of dessert is available from mid-day and is €9.95

Monday night is pie night for €5.95 including dessert.

There is also an early evening special for €7.75 which includes carvery and dessert between 6.0 p.m. and 7.0. p.m. every day.

The portions of meet are extremely generous and the quality is good. There is a large selection of vegetables, sauces and even Yorkshire pudding. Prices do not include VAT.

Restaurant El Caballero Javea

This has to be one of the most delightful Spanish restaurants on the Costa Blanca.

It is situated on the road which runs parallel to Javea Beach, opposite the Tennis Club, on the same side of the road as Humpty Dumpty. Meals are three course, including a glass of wine and range rom €10 to €18 approximately. For the €10 choice the main course is Grilled Sole and is always delicious.

Others include chicken, salmon, duck, lamb and the starters are also extremely good, avocado, melon with serrano ham, baked asparagus and ham with a cheese topping, soup and a huge salad. The staff are extremely friendly.

Flamenco Dancing

There is a Spanish restaurant which cooks dishes typical of the Valencian region, one of which is paella cooked on a wood fire (to order), also rice with bogavant, fideau, grilled meats, fresh fish and very good home made desserts.

This restaurant is called Viva Espana and is situated off the N332 on the left hand side just before you arrive at Oliva in the direction of Valencia. It takes about 45 minutes drive from Moraira.

On Saturday nights and Sunday lunch the restaurant is transformed into a huge party room; there is an elevated stage and a spectacular display of Spanish Ballet with traditional Flamenco dancing at its best.

During July and August this floor show is also performed on Friday evenings.

There are special prices for group bookings up to a capacity of 300 people, also you can get quotes for weddings, communions, parties, business groups and family reunions.

Paella Recipe

Paella

This is an authentic paella recipe cooked for us by a Spanish family in their finca in the hills behind Moraira.

For about 8 people.

24 large raw prawns
1 large red pepper
4 portions rabbit cut into 2” pieces
Similar amount of chicken
“ “ pork
Half kilo small squid
Cooked green beans
Few strands saffron Teaspoon paprika 1 teaspoon colourant 1 chopped onion Quarter kilo cooked butter beans “ “ chopped tomatoes 200 grams paella rice Double amount of water 1 kilo mussels, thoroughly cleaned.

Fry prawns in hot olive oil, add salt and remove Fry peppers and meats, when cooked add squid, then onions, green beans, spices, butter beans, chopped tomatoes, rice, stir, add water.

Cook till water is absorbed, return prawns and Add mussels.

Cook till mussels open, Discard any that do not open, Garnish with lemon.

Moraira Sangria Recipe

SANGRÍA
There are many variations of this recipe, which basically follow this one – you can add more fruit or hard alcohol or soda – but remember it needs to be served ice cold, so allow plenty of time for chilling.

Makes about 2 pints

Ingredients:

1 bottle dry full-bodied red wine 1 can fizzy orange, chilled 1 can fizzy lemon, chilled Spanish brandy – or any which is quite light Banana liqueur Cointreau 1 apple, chopped 1 pear, chopped 1 lemon, thinly sliced 1 orange, thinly sliced 1 tsp sugar 1 cinnamon stick Ice cubes

Preparation:

Put all the fruit pieces into a large jug, then pour over a generous amount of the banana liqueur, cointreau and brandy. Pour in the bottle of wine, and leave in the fridge to chill.

Once this is really cold, pour in the fizzy drinks and add the cinnamon and sugar. Mix in some ice cubes and it´s ready to serve.
