Food and Drink Life in Spain

Mon 2 Jun 2008

This market is held on Saturday mornings and is one of the most extensive on the Costa Blanca.

If you take the coast road from Moraira, drive to Calpe, past the garage on the right hand side and continue up the hill towards Alicante for about another two hundred yards.

You can park in the Eroski car park on the right hand side and walk up the hill for about 150 metres and you are then at the beginning of the market.

Alternatively, you can park in Mercadona which is just past the garage on the left hand side and you are in the middle of the market.

At the beginning of the market there are an abundance of fruit and vegetable stalls with just about every variety of fruit and vegetable you can think of.

There is one stall which specialises in mushrooms and when in season there are as many as six or seven different species. Also there are two flower stalls and their displays are an absolute delight. Everything is very reasonably priced.

Continuing down the market there are stalls selling handbags, shoes, jewellery, clothes for children and adults, curtain materials, table cloths, beach cushions, tapes and C.D.s, toys, cheeses and hams, eggs, and bric a brac.
