Walk to Cap Prim, Javea

Cap Prim

Cap Prim

Cap Prim

Cap Prim

This is a most beautiful walk with magnificent coastal scenery, completely unspoilt by any high rise development. The walk takes about two hours.
Commence the walk at the Arenal Beach in Javea and drive south until you reach the sign to Cala Blanca. You will reach the end of the road by the rocky beach where there is a car park. Leave the car here and walk along the delightful promenade for about 200 metres. Turn right up the steps and continue until you reach a lane where there are some beautiful villas. Turn left here and continue until you reach the main road towards Cabo de Nao. You will pass the College on your left and continue until you see the sign “Aula de Natura” and follow a narrow, surfaced road back towards the cliff edge. You will arrive at a viewpoint with a cross and from here there are magnificent views of Isla de Portixol and the coastline.

Follow the track down a few yards where there is a triple signpost and take the route left towards Cap Prim. This part juts out into the sea with beautiful views in every direction. Follow the green signs painted on the path until you reach the Cap. Half way along you can also take the turning left towards Cala Sardinara which is a tiny cove where fishermen look for sea urchins and fish for sardines.

Bodegas Parcent

Bodegas

Bodegas

For those interested in wines a visit to the Bodegas in Parcent is worthwhile.
Parcent is a delightful village inland from Benissa. Drive through Benissa in the direction of Calpe and take the right hand fork just outside the village, signposted Jalon. From Jalon continue towards Alkalali, and Parcent is signposted. The journey takes about 45 – 50 minutes from Benissa.

The wines are quite fruity using various grapes including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, etc. for the red wines and Chardonnay, Moscatel Romano, etc. for the white wines. The area is famous for their sweet Moscatel

In 1996 the company started to make wines using grapes from their own land and everything is grown organically and made by hand, including picking, pressing, bottleing and labelling. It took almost ten years of experimenting before they had a range of seven wines, two reds, La Quintana and Comtat de Parcent, two whites, Gra d·Or and Auro, the latter being judged the best white wine at a blind tasting in January of this year, and others.. The bodegas also received the Baco de Bronce award in 2004.

Solanum Plant

Solanum Plant Moraira

Solanum Plant Moraira

This is a beautiful shrub with deep blue flowers and is very easy to grow. It grows well in the garden and also makes a very good plant in a trough or pot. You can keep the plant to a reasonable size by cutting the branches when they get too big for the container.
The plant likes a reasonable amount of water and benefits from feeding during the flowering season. They are readily available in garden centres and are reasonably priced, approximately €6.00

Moraira Pansies

Moraira Pansies

Moraira Pansies

After the extremely hot and dry summer many of us have lost plants and it is now a good time to plant winter pansies to fill some of the gaps. Their colours are striking with many of them multicoloured. They look very attractive in troughs and pots and are very reasonable at under a euro.
If planted in good compost these small plants fill out in a very short time and you can plant them 6 inches apart to have a good showing.

The Hibiscus plant is a beautiful plant to have in your garden. There are various colours, red, pink, gold and yellow, and some are double flowers. They seem to grow best in pots and to get the maximum out of them it is best to clean the pot and renew the compost.
They are widely available in garden centres and can be bought for as little as €2.60
