Cap d'Or Moraira

Start of walk to Cap Do'r Moraira

Start of walk to Cap Do’r Moraira

It’s the 17th of May 10.30am and we are off for a walk to Cap d’or.
Cap d’or is the pepper pot watchtower above El Portet in Moraira built in the 16th century. It’s going to be another hot sunny day so walking in the morning is much easier. A leisurely walk to the top takes 30 mins. The pathways are rough with loose rocks, so you need to be sure footed with sensible footwear. I would not attempt it in the wet as there are expanses of flat rock that would get very slippy. During the winter it also gets slippy in the mornings from the dew, so best to let the sun dry it out and walk later in the day. The start of the walk is at the end of Pto. de Alcudia and this road is off Puerto del sol.
Simply follow the green and white markers along the way.

There are many wild flowers to look at all the way up to the top. The views are stunning and at the top you can see Javea and beyond on one side and Moraira over to Benidorm, with the Penon de Ifach rock in Calpe in between, on the other. It’s amazing just how many properties there are scattered along the coastline. Walk to the Lookout Tower above El Portet

To walk to the tower above El Portet drive to the car park at El Portet and walk down towards the beach. Just before you reach the beach there is a turning on the left hand side, take this road and follow the S.L. (local pathway signs).

These local walks are shown with S.L. and do not exceed 10 kilometres. They have two stripes, one white and one green and indicate both the location and the direction of pathways.

Where the path divides in two continue towards “Cova de la Sendra”. Here there is a steep slope, do not leave this path as it is a protected area for flora. There is a variety of shrubs and plants, rosemary, heather, esparto grass etc. all of which must be respected.

At the end of this steep slope we reach a flat area where the pathway divides in two, to the left it descends towards the “Cova de la Sendra”, a steep slope. To the right the path continues on a plain towards the “Torre Vigia” (look out tower).

Moraira Walks

La Cala Beach

La Cala Beach

A walk from El Portet to the beach of Moraig of Benitachell

This is a most beautiful walk of approximately 4 kilometres, estimate about 3hrs. 15 minutes there and back. The route runs through one of the most beautiful and striking areas of this countryside that ends at the beach of La Cala.

Start the walk from the Cami de la Viuda (this is the road before you reach the beach of El Portet in Moraira.

Continue uphill towards Calle Canario, the path is then signposted.

You are approaching one of the last areas that retain a great part of the Mediterranean coastline, with a copse of white pines or oak, esparto grass, palmito, kermes oak, rosemary and lavender, amongst other species. In the spring there is an abundance of many wild flowers.

Half way take the right fork, the path becomes more difficult and care should be taken. A recommended alternative is to the left just before the beach, a steep climb to the flat plateau from where you can reach the beach of Moraig of Benitachell.

El Portet Beach, Moraira

El Portet Bay

El Portet Bay

El Portet

El Portet beach in Moraira is an unspoilt & stunning beach. A true tranquility of mother nature. The beach has two quality beach side bars, offering excellent tapas amongst other things!
The jewel in the crown as far as you care to travel in Spain. Well worth a visit!

Moraira Ampolla beach near the castle is another blue flag beach and very handy for the town. There are many coves and beaches along the Moraira coast towards Calpe that are very popular and well worth exploring especially if you like snorkling. Ther are many places to see and visit on the Costa Blanca.
